@Elisa it's display data channel, it's a protocol built into HDMI and DP monitors that allows the computer to control the monitor's settings 
it would allow a user to change brightness the same way they would on a laptop, with a software slider :D
idk about other ppl but i find this to be a very good "quality of life" feature since monitor menus suck so much
